Mark Clemence, M.D., a primary care
physician with offices in Hales Corners, Wisconsin, is using WHIN on his
personal computer at home and discovering its exciting advantages. "WHIN is
providing an excellent convenience for me," said Dr. Clemence. "It enables me
to get test results and X-ray reports quicker, so I can make decisions about
patient treatments quicker."
"Culture results from blood tests often
are not ready until late afternoon or evening," he continued."Instead of
waiting until the next morning for results, I can use WHIN at home and check
them the same evening."
Dr. Clemence explained the instant information
access helps him when he's on call as well. "It enables me to review the
patient's records immediately from home." He also uses WHIN in the morning to
check his patient census from home. "I know who is in the hospital and what
their status is before I get there," he noted. "It also helps with discharge
summaries. I often dictate them from home, because I can access patient test
results and files through WHIN."
Dr. Clemence cited several additional
examples where WHIN helped him improve patient care.
"I had a
mentally-impaired patient who came in for a cardiac work-up. He denied having
had any prior medical treatment for his heart condition. When I looked up his
record through WHIN, I saw he had just been seen at a hospital a few weeks
before for the condition," explained Dr. Clemence. "He didn't remember it, and
had no relatives who could provide information."
"In several special
circumstances, the patient demographics feature has been helpful in getting in
touch with next of kin," noted Clemence. "I also like the pharmacy feature. It
provides a constant update of medications my patients are taking."
